I've stayed away from .shn files ever since I got a computer running Vista because the mkw converter won't install -- installer lies and gives an error message saying there's not enough memory. This has happened on 3 other Vista computers I've tried to install it on.

So, does anybody know of another no-cost app for converting .shn files? Or does anybody know how to get mkw to install on Vista?

I am a fellow frustrated Vista victim. Everything was fine with how I used mkw and winamp, but on the new home vista, it all blows.

Any advice for the poor winamp performance? I downloaded the latest version and can't get a cd burned without winamp crashing.

Thanks for the information. It's supposed to rain a lot (again) in Atlanta this weekend, so I may have time to establish a new method.

I haven't DL'd the latest version, and won't thanks to your experience. On the winamp freeware version I use the CD burner app will only burn at 2X which is slower than molasses in winter. Despite that, it's worked for me as a stand alone FLAC converter - CD Burner with fewer Vista related errors that other store bought software I've tried.

(Then again, I haven't burnt anything since the 2nd Vista upgrade package was installed earlier this week.)

for burning CDs, use Exact Audio Copy; works fine on Vista (although you might run into an Admin rights conflict, if so, there is a workaround), and it's free & an amazing piece of software
